CHIEFTAIN OF THE PUDDING RACE SHORT FILM
Director/ Producer Shane Crosland
RELEASE TBA / IN FILM FEST CIRCUIT
Synopsis: Between steadfast locals and diverse traveler's, Sunny struggles to find solace in his hometown.
The Chieftain Of The Pudding Race is a 30-minute narrative short film set in and around a small regional tourist town in Australia. It is a story that targets a unique way to live, which is that of traveling and living the slow life in a paradise town; a condensed international melting pot.
Though the story follows a younger guy, Sunny, the film is about the ideas that are instigated upon him, rather than just about him. The story is deeply rooted in social ironies and contradiction. While touching on the idea of being a tourist in the town you grew up in, this film is about breaking out of the bubble that the world has come to visit. After extensive travel and experiencing many transient settings around the world, it has become a special idea that Shane has wanted to touch on.
This short is a dry comedy combining elements of authenticity and cinema, drawing influence from filmmakers like Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed And Confused, A Scanner Darkly), Andrea Arnold (American Honey), Larry Clark (KIDS), Harmony Korine (The Beach Bum), Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket), Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien), Jean-Luc Godard (Pierrot le Fou), Agnès Varda (Vagabond), Nicolas Roeg (Walkabout), Michal Marczak (All These Sleepless Nights), and countless more.
Filming in the Byron Shire and the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia, the aim is to make this film a creative community effort. We want to create a story that makes you smile and wonder about what the rest of the world is hiding, and what adventures await. With your help and a little bit of luck, The Chieftain Of The Pudding Race will be one of those films.
